Family Urticaceae, by Ivo Drury

Family Urticaceae
by Ivo Drury

I’m in from the garden
disheveled, shower-worthy
reading Merwin while
smelling the earth off half-clean hands
you place a sliced pear beside me
softening my earthiness
I ease into reading ‘Urticophilia’
garden and nettles and pear,
my earthiness and your freshness
and if it’s not perfume, it’s close

Ivo Drury was born and educated in Dublin on the East Coast of Ireland and now lives, loves and writes on the Central Coast of California.
